We all have dreams and aspirations. No matter the dire state we might
find ourselves in at any time in our lives, there is a possibility for
our dreams to come true, and that reality is what keeps us going. Even
when we are rock bottom, the hope of the next day being better buoys us
with the strength to rise up and try one more time.
Often times though, because our dreams seem bigger and larger than us, we tend to get stuck in the position of not putting in adequate action to achieve these dreams.
If you are in that stage, you can draw inspiration from a certain ‘’small’’ team in England: Leicester City FC, who is currently in the second position of the English Premier League after 19 games played are the modern day David slaying Goliath-like giants. As recently as 2 years ago, they were plying their trade in the 2nd division and just last year, finished 14th in the league. As of now, though they are 2nd on the log, they are giving everybody a run for their money and are aiming to overrun the goal difference that is keeping them from the top spot they have held for a while now. A spot that Chelsea held a little less than a year ago. This shows that a reversal of fortune is absolutely possible in less than a year.

To aid us in planning for the New Year, here are some lessons we can learn and adopt from the rise of Leicester FC - who have against all odds turned around their fortunes -in order to have a more productive year in 2016

The above quote is quite popular because of how true and apt it is. In life, whenever things don’t seem to be going the way you envisioned, be it a task, project or plan, it is not the time to get frustrated, but the time to assess and evaluate your approach. This you must remember as you cross over to 2016.
Leicester City as a club had been in existence for over a hundred years. However, after a not too great season last time out saw them finishing 14th in the league. The owner knew that to achieve a different result, he had to change some things and he did change this. Leicester swiftly appointed former Chelsea and Greek Manager Claudio Ranieri as their new manager at the beginning of the 2015–16 Premier League season. Since his appointment, he has rejuvenated the side and stirred them to be at the top of the league after 19 games played. He has also brought out the best of Striker Jamie Vardy who scored 13 goals over 11 consecutive game to break a long standing record of former Manchester United striker,Van Nistelrooy. The goals scored by the duo striking force of Leicester are higher than some teams combined thus far in the season.

It would have been foolhardy for the management to start the new season with the same methods and expect an improvement. They realized that to achieve success, they had to change something, and that change has made the difference so far.
In our personal and professional lives –as we go in 2016, we have to evaluate the methods and strategies that have worked for us, and strive to re-implement them in the New Year whilst identifying the negative and limiting habits that hampered our growth throughout 2015. Change takes time but you have to start somewhere.

It is one thing to understand that there is the need for change and another thing to really change. Knowing the path and toeing the path are two different things.
The Management of Leicester City knew they had to change something at the end of last season. When it was obvious they needed to change their coach, they promptly did so without sentiment. Their previous coach had helped them qualify for the Premier League from the Championship (2nd Division), yet the board knew he probably would not lead them to greater achievements in the league. So they promptly appointed a more experienced coach who rallied the troops and helped them to the top of the league within 16 games.
It would have been easy for Leicester FC of England as it is to all of us, to build up castles in the air by dreaming of victories, and of having a respectable finish in the league. However, if they failed to take action, they would be struggling for survival.
As the year begins, you have to realize that wishful thinking wouldn’t get your dreams fulfilled. You need to roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty and work out the changes you need to make to achieve a different result.
Start penning down the thoughts for your book, building your network one person at a time andinvesting in yourself (you can afford it) It is time to wake up from your ‘’Dream’’, and start working on your ‘’Dream’’

Life is a journey. The journey would at times be rough, rocky or smooth but one thing that shouldn’t eviscerate with each passing season in your journey is belief in yourself. It is important to dispel negative voices that might be actively discouraging you.
Leicester City had been predicted to be among the 3 teams to relegate from the Premier League this season by most of the most respected pundits and authorities in football.

Yet after 19 games played, their predictions look more ridiculous and absurd by the day. If the team had taken the comments of these so called ‘’expert’’ to heart, they might not be where they are today, however, they have used the rejection to propel them to having their best start to a season ever.
What are people saying about your skills right now? About your abilities? Your personality? It is up to you to either confirm whatever derogatory statement they might have made about you, or prove them wrong.
Believing in yourself is a must to achieve your goals and dreams in life.
Don’t be discouraged by the naysayers. They are not the ones who determine the results. You do, either by your actions or inactions.
Never let those who haven’t done it, tell those who are trying that it is impossible.
You can highlight the necessary changes you need to make in your career and personal lives; you can also take action (baby steps) and engage in positive affirmations to increase your self belief all you want, but without consistency, your efforts would be in futility.
It is important to remain dedicated and committed to a goal that you set even when it isn’t easy on you. Most people want to be fit, and they start an exercising regime, however, more often than not, 90% stop their routine before they can make their activities habits through consistency.
One of Leicester City’s goals this season was to have at least 40 points at the end of the season. And they have been consistent in their actions towards achieving this goal all season. And now after 19 games, they are 1 point away from their original aim

It would be foolhardy and counter-productive for you to set your goals, work hard at it for 3 weeks and then relapse into inertia (a state of inactivity) for some weeks. You lose momentum by not being consistent, and drastically reduce the chance of ever completing that goal that you have set.
Great thing don’t happen by chance, you have to be consistent in your approach towards.

One question for you: Have you practiced your kick a thousand times? Have you?

By celebrating the little successes we have each single time though, we can increase our self belief and confidence level, and use that feeling to propel us to achieving the other major goals that we have planned.
2. Take Action: Action Changes Things. Take baby steps, no matter how little, daily and discover that you are moving closer to the goals and aspirations you have set for yourself this year
3. Believe in Yourself: You need to have confidence in yourself and the abilities you have. Do not be discouraged by mistakes, decide to learn from every situation and improve your self-confidence every day.
4. Be Consistent: It is important to continue learning or practising the new skill consistently. Taking a break in between can set you back much farther than imagined. Keep being motivated and inspired to continue no matter what happens.
5. Celebrate Your Successes: No matter how little the succes is, celebrate it. Take yourself out for lunch or buy yourself a small gift . Whaterver way you want to, celebrate achieved milestones.
