Star Wars: The Force Awakens, was the highest grossing film in the UK last year, despite only being released on December 17.

The seventh instalment of the science-fiction series took £94.1million at the box office, pushing Spectre into second place with only £93.5million.
It currently sits as the second most successful film in the history of UK cinemas, less than £10million behind Skyfall’s £103million record, and it is all but certain to take the crown within days.

In its opening weekend, almost nine out of every ten trips to the cinema in the UK and Ireland were to see Star Wars.
